ENHANCING FUTURE GENERATIONS
Founded in July 2009 the group has expanded to become one of the most active of its kind in the Staffordshire Moorlands thanks to a dedicated band of volunteers. The aim of the group is to help develop young minds, to provide interesting activities and to assist in getting the youngsters off the streets where we work extensively with the local police. As a result of our activities we endeavour to steer the youngsters into a more positive and fruitful way of life and this appears to be reaping rewards as the rate of juvenile offending has reduced significantly since the group was formed and continues to drop.

INTERGENERATIONAL COMMITMENT
An important aspect of our work is to bring age groups together to talk about their lives and learn to work with each other. With this in mind the group has organised intergenerational trips which have included the Imperial War Museum and the Cosford Air Show. A major success has been Silver Surfers which is run in partnership with Moorside High School where youngsters teach the older generation about computers on a one-to-one basis.

ENBRACING THE FAMILY
The biggest day event in Werrington is the annual Family Fun Playday. Here there is something for all the family to enjoy. In addition to being a stunning day all local voluntary groups and charities are welcomed to take part without cost and to raise funds for their owactivities.

BRINGING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER
The group has reintroduced the Werrington Pancake Race in conjunction with the Primary School having traced the original silver cup, organises the Werrington’s got Talent Show in the Village Hall where winners have gone on the win national contests. Each year every youngster in the area is invited to Christmas Parties which are run for different age groups. The Support Group also works with the Werrington Young Offenders Institute and takes part in Challenge Days at Moorside High School.

SOMEWHERE SPECIAL TO GO
For youngsters aged between 9 and 15 the group runs a Friday Club in conjunction with the Methodist Church during term time from 7 to 9pm. The club offers a wide range of equipment including X-Boxes, Wii games, Snooker and Table Tennis to mention but a few items. This has proved to be remarkably successful in getting the youngsters off the streets on the busiest night of the week. The group employs a paid Youth Worker to run the club on professional lines where different activities are organised each week. There is a month end Disco and Chip Feast. As part of a plan to get the youngsters more involved they wrote the club’s Rules and Regulations and take part in its running.

AND SO MUCH MORE
There are trips to Go-Karting, Ten Pin Bowling, the Snowdome, Cinema as part of a rolling programme, the youngsters themselves deciding where they want to go.

KIDS2KIDS
This is a special fund organised by the group to provide Christmas presents for disadvantaged children in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Here we are working with the District Council, Churches, Schools, Housing Associations and sponsor companies with this on-going project.
